I created Maatwerk AI for designers and makers who want more room to explore ideas, develop them with confidence and carry their intent through to the finished result.

An unconventional path
Good design and skilled making bring out the best in each other.
My background has never followed a straight line.
I originally trained in computer engineering and mathematics before building a career spanning more than two decades in finance, risk and business leadership.
Alongside that career, I kept returning to something much more tangible: architecture, interiors and making things.
What started as a passion became a serious second discipline.
I studied interior design and construction, built my own workshop, and immersed myself in furniture making, cabinetry, materials and digital fabrication.
Today I work across sketches, spatial ideas, materials and digital models, as well as the cutting, routing, joining and finishing that turn a design into an object. Each side informs the other.
That combination fundamentally changed the way I looked at design software.
Why I built Maatwerk AI
For designers, the work starts with understanding people, spaces and possibilities. Research, concept development, visual communication and design decisions all deserve time and attention.
For makers, the challenge is to translate intent into reliable detail: materials, dimensions, joinery, fabrication and assembly. Practical feedback can also open up new design possibilities.
Both lose valuable time when information is scattered, routine work repeats and decisions have to be explained again. Those are the problems I want AI to help solve.
Maatwerk AI brings practical training and workflow development to both sides: from research, concept studies and presentations to model development, technical checks and making. The starting point is the work you do, whether your focus is design, production or the connection between them.

Building furniture in my own workshop brought everything back to physical reality — tolerances, materials, joinery, machines and the consequences of every design decision.
Creative judgement comes first.
AI should strengthen design and craft.
I see AI as a way to create more space for the work that needs human attention: exploring possibilities, making choices and developing something with care.
For designers, that might mean clearer research, richer concept exploration and more useful comparisons. For makers, it might mean better-organised information, earlier technical checks and less repetitive preparation.
Aesthetic judgement, spatial understanding, material knowledge and practical skill remain essential. The value of AI is in supporting those capabilities throughout a project.
Maatwerk AI started with a practical question:
How can we spend more time developing good ideas, and less time managing the work around them?
My experience in design and making led to another:
What if designers and makers could work from a shared understanding of intent, materials and detail?
That is the ambition behind Maatwerk AI.
